Hello! My name is Aaron (aaron7eleven) and I run Eventide Games Studios.
Eventide Games Studio was created to fulfill my dream of making my own games and starting my own company.
My goal (and the studio’s) is to build games that provide fun, unique and interesting experiences.
Currently, I’m running as a solo developer using Godot to building an unannounced card battling Roguelite Deck builder game.
My specialities and interests in game dev are Game Design, Programming, Gameplay Design, and System Design.
Background
I officially started making games with Unity in July 2020 after completing GMTK Game Jam 2020 with my entry, Speed. I’ve been hooked on game dev ever since.
After GMTK, I built one more game, Fun with Physics. Then, got an idea for 2D Puzzle Game and started building. This game would later become Abridge.
Along with developing Abridge, I participated in more game jams and building even more games (Unfold, Snake, Pay Respects, Jump, Bounce, Win!, FPS: The Game Show) to continually improve my game dev skills. In addition, I began learning C++ and how to use a game framework, like SFML, to build a game (Snake). This furthered my interest the game engines and the tech that makes game possible.
27 months later, Abridge released on Oct. 14th, 2022.
In following months of Abridge’s release, many bugs were fixed, features were added, and improvements made. They slowly began to dwindle and I took a much needed break. However, as time went on, the game dev itch grew stronger.
Then, this began a long learning, exploratory and experimental phase of game dev from Dec. 2022 to Mar. 2024.
Began reading many books such as:
- The Art of Game Design: A book of Lenses by Jesse Schell
- The Pragmatic Programmer by Andy Hunt and Dave Thomas
- Level Up! The Guide to Great Video Game Design by Scott Rogers
- Theory of Fun by Raph Koster
- Blood, Sweat, and Pixels by Jason Schreier
- Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull w/ Amy Wallace
- 4 hr Work Week by Tim Ferris
- And many more….
Participated in more game jams, like Ludum Dare 53 and GMTK Game Jam 2023, to built more games with Unity (The Lighthouse Hero, Blast Belt, Maze Craze).
Tried other game frameworks, like Raylib and SDL, to build Minesweeper and Pong, respectively.
Worked with other game engines, like Unreal and Godot. Using Godot, I built Game Engine Battle Simulator.
I even tried out building my own game engine, waddle.
However, that all change in March 2024 when a game called Balatro came out. The game change me and spawned a game idea based it’s principles and gameplay.
Since then till now, I’m working on this unannounced card battling Roguelite Deck builder game.
Outside of my full-time job and developing games, I enjoy life. Spent time with family, go to church, working out, playing games, cooking, watch football & rugby, traveling, and do other hobbies.
